Photograph by Tass Thacker
This is one of the more compelling portraits from our time in the Andes mountains of Ecuador. Tass made a number of photographs of "Nina," which in Spanish means little girl. In each photograph she has a different and haunting facial expression, which to us has come to represent the hardships and difficulties of poor people around the world. The power of the photo is not only in her intense stare, but also the necklace that she wears, the way her one foot is held up off the ground, and the open door behind her which leads into a dirt floored hut. |
