SURICAT
South Africa 34-706
Photograph by Tass Thacker.

The first big game park we visit on our African Safari trip is in the Kalahari Desert. Our favorite animal is the little suricat, which in South Africa is often called a meercat.

Suricats live in groups called colonies. Whenever suricats leave their underground burrow, they always post a guard. The guard stands alert on his or her back legs, looking out for predators.

To see a closer view of this suricat go to more suricats.
